Tape Backup Instructions
Small or Home Office
Discussion:
On the last business day of each month a full backup will be made of all workstations of the server. This backup will be removed for storage off site.
In addition to the monthly backup, each Friday a full backup will be made of all workstation
and all volumes of the server. The two most current Friday backup tapes will be kept on-site
for ready access. This requires that the oldest Friday backup tape stored off-site be brought
to the office on Friday morning to re-use. At the end of the day Friday, the oldest tape should
be in the tape drive, and the second oldest be removed for off-site storage.
Each day at lunch an incremental backup will be made of each workstation and all volumes
of the server. These tapes (Monday through Thursday) will be kept on-site.
The monthly tapes may be kept for a year in case it is necessary to recreate data a month
at a time.
Backup Instructions:
- All workstations should be left turned on and logged out of the network.
If it is necessary to use a workstation during this period please note that any files
that are in use will not be backed up.
- Each afternoon the backup tape will eject when the backup has been completed;
- Ensure that the correct daily tape is in the tape drive before noon;
